Can I no-till plant hemp?

Yes. HFGA allows no-till if that is how you farm. Oregon State says a no-till grain planting should keep seed and fertilizer apart, and a tilled bed should be firm.

Can I no-till plant hemp?

Yes. HFGA allows no-till when that is how you farm, and it still prefers a low-tillage disc for a worked seedbed. Oregon State says grain hemp can be no-tilled, and that seed and fertilizer should stay separated in that system. rechem's chemistry still goes on the seed and in the planting pass.

How do I prepare a field for hemp?

A low-tillage seedbed, then rechem's organic field enrichment. Hemp fits a corn, soy, alfalfa, or cotton rotation. No-till is allowed on farms that already use it.

Yes. Plant hemp with the drill you already own, including a no-till drill, when that is how the farm puts seed in the ground. The Hemp Fiber and Grain Association prefers a low-tillage disc for the seedbed, and it allows a chisel plow or no-till if that is the practice you already run. No-till is permission, not a different crop.

Oregon State University Extension says grain hemp can be sown in tilled or no-till systems. In tilled ground they want a firm seedbed, and they say to pack it before planting if it is loose. In no-till they recommend keeping seed and fertilizer separated. Those are Oregon's grain notes. They are not a rechem coulter setting, and they are not a residue-height rule. This page will not invent either one.

What still happens in the slot

Residue does not move the chemistry off the seed. rechem's pass is still organic treatment on the seed and in the planting pass, which is Organic seed and planting chemistry. The ground under that choice is How does rechem chemistry treat the soil?. A worked seedbed, when you use one, is How do I prepare a field for hemp?.

The rate in the meters is a different job from the opener. Calibrate to the lot: How do I calibrate a grain drill for hemp seed?. The planting window is When and how do I plant hemp?.

Fiber, grain, and the rotation

A no-till slot does not decide the harvest. Fiber is Hemp fiber planting chemistry. Grain is Hemp grain planting chemistry. Wheat stubble as a second-crop window is Can I plant hemp fiber after winter wheat?. Corn residue is the other common case: Can I plant hemp fiber after corn?. The soil band is Soil. rechem is a Heartland company, and HFGA still wants the offtake partner to agree the planting method.

FAQ

Quick answers about this part of the approach.

Does no-till replace the seedbed?

No. HFGA prefers a low-tillage disc when you work the ground. No-till is the option when that is already the farm, not a skip of seed-to-soil contact.

Should seed and fertilizer share a slot?

Oregon State says to separate them in a no-till grain planting. This page does not add a rechem fertilizer placement of its own.

Do I pack a tilled field before no-till rules apply?

If you tilled, Oregon State says the seedbed should be firm, and to pack it before planting when it is loose. No-till is the residue case, not the fluffy-tillage case.

Is no-till the same job for fiber and grain?

The slot can be. The crop after emergence is not. Fiber wants a wall of stalks. Grain has to flower and fill.

Does residue cancel the seed treatment?

No. The treatment is on the seed. Residue changes the drill, not the reason the seed was prepared.
