How do I get hemp seed?

Order certified hemp seed from rechem, and say whether the field is for fiber, grain, or both. Match the lot to the buyer before it ships. HFGA also introduces certified seed producers, and it distinguishes US AOSCA certification from European OECD certification.

What hemp genetics can I plant?

rechem supplies fiber seed and grain seed. Heartland splits fiber seed by latitude. The buyer often names the variety.

rechem is where the seed comes from. Say whether the field is for fiber, for grain, or for both, and name the buyer if you already have one. Some buyers will only take certain genetics. The Hemp Fiber and Grain Association says to confirm that list with the offtake partner before the seed is on the truck.

Certified seed

HFGA recommends certified seed because it simplifies the approval process. US seed is certified by AOSCA. European seed is certified by OECD. Certified seed from a North American distributor is the path they tell new farmers to use. In their account, overseas seed is where poor germination, pests, and THC failures show up.

Planting that certified seed, and telling the state program, is also how HFGA says many states reduce or drop the CBD and THC tests. Keep the bag tags. The lot number is part of the record.

How much, and how to hold it

HFGA's farming community has historically planted fiber in 7–10 inch rows at 40–50 pounds of seed to the acre. They also say to confirm the method with the offtake partner. That is a community record, not a rechem label rate. Ask rechem for the bag count for your acres and your lot.

Leave the seed in the bag it shipped in, cool and dry, separate from grain you intend to sell. If a bag is torn or wet, tell rechem before it goes in the drill.

rechem's path is certified seed for the season you are planting. Farm-saved seed steps out of the AOSCA or OECD lot. If you want to save seed, that is a different program, and it is not the one this page describes.

What goes on the seed

The seed and the chemistry travel together. rechem's seed treatment is organic chemistry on the seed, so the plant meets the row already prepared. That pass is Organic seed and planting chemistry. Heartland can buy the fiber and the grain once the stand is in. Line the buyer up before you plant.

FAQ

Quick answers about this part of the approach.

Who sells the seed?

rechem. Say fiber, grain, or both, and name the buyer if you already have one.

Does the seed have to be certified?

HFGA recommends certified seed. US lots are AOSCA. European lots are OECD. Certified seed is also how they say many states reduce THC testing.

How much should I order?

HFGA's community has planted fiber at 40–50 pounds per acre in 7–10 inch rows. Confirm that with rechem and with the buyer. It is their record, not a rechem label rate.

Can I plant seed I saved from last year?

rechem's path is certified seed for the season you are planting. Farm-saved seed leaves the certified lot.

When should I order?

Before the lot is gone and before the planter is scheduled. rechem would rather match the seed early than substitute a variety the buyer did not approve.
